STEM EDUCATION

STEM education is an interdisciplinary approach to learning where rigorous academic concepts are coupled with real-world lessons as students apply science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in contexts that make connections between school, community, work, and the global enterprise. This enables the development of STEM literacy and with it the ability to compete in the new economy.

The STEM acronym was first coined by the National Science Foundation in the early 1990s and refers to any policy, event, curriculum, or education program dealing with science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Integrating STEM in K-12 education is becoming a priority. STEM education is aimed at preparing students for the challenges of the 21st century.

At Cornerstone, we are intentional and proactive about integrating STEM education throughout our curriculum.
